Saving your bacon (fat)

One of the things I love about being a stay-at-home mom is finding ways to help us stretch our dollars, particularly when it involves finding uses for things I used to just throw away. Today’s example: bacon fat.

For years, I’ve just thrown all that lovely bacon fat out after frying it up in a pan. That’s what I was taught to do with it and I never really thought that much about it. But as I was frying up some bacon for my son’s snack today, it hit me. Bacon tastes good — really, really good. And by throwing out that bacon fat, I’m just letting all those wonderful flavors go to waste.

So today I did something I’ve never done before. I poured all that yummy bacony goodness into a glass container and put it into our fridge for safe keeping. And you can bet I’ll be pulling it out the next time I fry up some eggs.

What do you do with the leftover grease from fried bacon?
