Bamboo for Baby? Yes!

Solid Layette Gown Knot Hat Set CrimsonI try to buy clothes for our kids that are made from eco-friendly materials as often as possible. For the most part, that means buying organic cotton. But recently I had the opportunity to try a newborn layette gown and knot hat set
set made from bamboo, courtesy of KicKee Pants and I have to say I am loving these clothes. They’re incredibly cute and luxuriously soft. You can read my full review of the set here.

If you’re not familiar with the eco-friendly properties of bamboo, here are just a few reasons it’s such an amazing material:

  • Bamboo is among the fastest-growing plants in the world, which means it can produce 20 times more timber than trees planted over the same area
  • Because of its height, bamboo also outproduces cotton by 10 to 1
  • Bamboo plants absorb 5 times more carbon dioxide and produce about 30% more oxygen than an equivalent stand of trees

And, of course, bamboo is incredibly versatile. In our house, we have clothes, a cutting board and even a laptop stand made from bamboo. The only place I’m not crazy about having bamboo is in the yard, because it overruns everything!

Do you have any products made from bamboo in your home?

  1. When we had to re-do our family room floor several years ago, we chose bamboo, for all these reasons! We’ve been very happy with the results.

    • Cool! We haven’t ventured into bamboo flooring yet, but that’s great to know. I’ve always wondered how well it would hold up.
