Finding the Right Newborn Diaper Cover

I had intended to cloth diaper my son as soon as we brought him home from the hospital, but at 4 lbs. 14 oz. he simply didn’t fit into any of the diapers or covers we had. Instead, he stayed in preemie-sized disposables for a couple of months until he fit into our cloth diaper stash.

Once he grew into cloth, we tried a lot of different types of diapers and covers on our son because I really didn’t know what to expect or what I would like. As it turned out, he didn’t fit in the Prorap covers for a long time because the hook and loop closures don’t overlap. He was simply too skinny for them to fit him well. We had better luck with Thirsties and Bummis covers, and those — combined with fitted diapers — quickly became my go-to covers for cloth diapering a (not-so) newborn.

What was your experience like cloth diapering a newborn? What were your favorite newborn covers?
